Why Luna?
Steven: Luna is exactly the kind of person even in real life I would want to
be friends with. She is who she is and doesn't make excuses, and she
doesn't seem to resent the jeers and things that people do to her.
she's clearly super smart too, being in ravenclaw. From the first
chapter she stood out so much that I couldn't help but root for her,
and ever since OOTP I've been hoping Harry and her would finally get
together, as the editorials have suggested, I also think she is one
of few charecters that would suit harry in a 'ship. It's too bad
that doesn't seem to be the plan. I always gravitate towards the
unique, the stand outs, and in the series, she seems to be the only
one with a truly eccentric personality. I'm excited to see how ms.
lynch will portray her in the upcoming movie. I hope she does her
justice. I hope the movie does her justice and doesn't just sweep
her under the rug like other bit characters.
Zenman: All the major characters of the HP series are 'outsiders'..standing
apart from the others in the Magical Universe for many different
reasons. This opens them up to ridicule and some abuse from the
Normal Wizarding students.
Then imagine finding someone else at Hogwarts that is even more of an
Outsider than they are. That's the appeal of Luna. And where the Big
Three (and Neville, another personal fave) are sometimes anguished
(but never for long) about being Outsiders, Luna never is. She is
self-assured and certain that she is fine the way she is. No
self-doubt here.
I'm always hoping for more of Luna as each book comes out. I've
also been very curious to see how she will be portrayed in the movie
versions, and on seeing just the little of Evanna revealed so far, I
do not believe that I or any other of Luna's many fans will be
disappointed.
